Today I am participating in Sew Mama Sew’s Giveaway Day for the second time. I have been a long time follower and reader of Sew Mama Sew’s blog. It is a wonderful source of the lastest and greatest of sewing and crafting. I love seeing all the new tutorials and meeting new designers and reading their blogs.
For those of you who maybe new here today, I am Shelley, The Carpenter’s Daughter and I have been quilting on and off for over 20 years and started this blog back in July of last year. I make alot of my quilts as gifts for graduations, birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. I have been fortunate to be able to pattern test for some great quilt designers in the last year. I have learned a lot of new techniques and had a lot of fun along the way.

I’m new to quilting so I’m just doing super easy beginner stuff still. I made a jelly roll race quilt top which was super easy and fun. I also made a quilt top using one layer cake. Next up I’ll be doing an easy quilt as you go QUILT. I’m nervous about it but I know it’s within my skill set.

My favorite quilt pattern, so far, is the Applelicious quilt from “Quilty Fun.” It was so much fun to see those little apples come together!
I’m really brand new to sewing, but have figured out (through hours and hours of Pinterest) that I’m not a pattern girl. My quilts will probably always be very boxy and geometric.
I haven’t a favorite favorite, but I love a good plus block!

My favorite pattern is always the one I’m working on at the moment. I don’t like to repeat myself, so I don’t want to go back and do one over again. I will say that I love HSTs, pinwheels, and star blocks of all kinds. And I would like to do more paper piecing.
I am obsessed with all things by jaybird quilts. I love the rulers and how easy and accurate they are to piece.

I made a Jelly Roll Jam quilt for my niece last fall and I loved how it came together!
My favorite patterns are any with curves…flowering snowball, double wedding rings, etc.
I’ve been loving hst’s and qst’s lately– you can do so much with simple blocks!
I’ve been making a lot of plus quilts recently, but my go-to baby quilt patterns–I make a lot of baby quilts–is Northern Lights by Jaybird Quilts. I’ve always made it in solids, but I’ve never used the same color palette. I just love it! 🙂

I love how quickly and easily Ms. Midge’s Charm Dash pattern went together (using charm squares with no waste).

My favorite would have to be a toss up between a HST sampler quilt following In Color Order’s sew a long from a bit back, or a disappearing 9 patch doll blanket I made my kiddo. Both so fun!
Petal Pushers from Quilter’s Mixology. I made a lap-sized, and it went together fast and looks complicated but wasn’t. Love that!
I guess I don’t really have a pattern that I really like as I am still relatively new but I am currently working on a pattern called Stick Shift from A Diary Of A Quilter which is awesome, especially for a baby girl quilt. 🙂

I love making log cabin blocks because they’re quick and easy. I just haven’t made one in a while. Maybe it’s time to break out the jellyrolls to make a log cabin quilt.
I’ve never made a proper quilt, but I’m slightly obsessed with hexagons recently so this would probably be my first choice

I usually make my own designs. I am not a fan of repeating blocks but sometimes they are fun. I love HST and Diamond shapes
I’ve only designed and made on pattern, an 18 inch paper pieced block. I have lots of blocks in a sketch book though, many using half and quarter square triangles.
I love simplicity and also love blocks set on point.
Oh, man. I am stuck on hexagons right now… I’m obsessed with the idea of a clamshell, but have yet to make one yet.

My favorite pattern is a technique–the stack n whack stars.
I am a newish quilter so no real long time favorites yet, but right now I’m working on a pinwheel quilt for my daughter. My next quilt is a giant scrappy ohio star for my front porch! I also love improv piecing.
I have been really wanting to make a quilt with solids lately. Either various shades of one or two colors or lots of bright colors mixed together.

Favorite pattern… that is a hard one.I haven’t done any ‘plus’ quilts yet, the closest thing to it was the Basket Lattice quilt by Sheri Pape. Her website is terrible, but here is a picture I dug up on pinterest… I am not sure this one really counts as a favorite, but I did like it and am considering making it a second time.

I am really new to quilting (just finished my first quilt top) so I haven’t really found a “Favourite” that is a go to as I have only tried it once 🙂 I am sure I will find something though.
I think I never stuck to one single block for a whole quilt and liked the result … well ok one, but that’s not done yet (well the back and batting etc. needs still to be done) – scrappy 9-patches + economy blocks in solids … I really like how it turned out.
I love scrappy quilts of all types. I tend to be eclectic in my tastes — have gone modern as well as repro and all in between.

I actually don’t get to quilt often, but the favorites I’ve made are the one I made from hand-dyed fabrics for a fiber art class in college (most fun class ever) and finishing a couple of my grandmother’s hand-stitched quilts that she wasn’t able to complete before she passed.
I just finished a simple 9-patch quilt top and totally loved it, prior to that lots of HST for a star quilt.

I’m so very new to quilting that I don’t have anything favorite yet, in fact I haven’t done a single projects yet. I want to make basic quilted cushions using simple pattern with pretty prints.

Last year I started making cross/plus blocks to use up my scraps. I warn everyone against them because they are seriously addictive. I can’t decide whether to stop with a lap size or keep going to a queen. I really don’t think I should start again. Its too dangerous.

Oh, my, it’s hard to choose a favorite! I enjoy making pretty much any quilt. I tend to prefer complex blocks that challenge me. Possibly my favorite so far has been the Star Light, Star Bright quilt along with Melissa Corry.

I am just beginning and haven’t gotten too far with anything really exciting. However, being a mathematician, I am excited to try and also design my own patterns. I have always had an obsession with tessellations and this seems to be the perfect way to put the two loves together.

My favorite recently has been half square triangle quilts!
I am a bit obsessed with Camille Roskelley’s Swoon pattern, I’ve made two quilts using the pattern & would be happy to use the pattern again – it’s such a great pattern & looks awesome with pretty much any fabric combination. Currently I’m making an Ocean Waves quilt & have been a bit obsessive with this one too but I am questioning my decision to make a queen bed sized quilt with over 1200 half square triangles! I’m not really a quilter, and I made different designs each time.
I’m working on a Swoon right now and enjoying how it’s coming together.

I don’t have a favorite pattern. I try to work my way through all the classics like jacob’s ladder, log cabin, orange peel, churn dash … What I like so much about quilting is the myriad ways it can be done. Next on my agenda is learning how to paper-piece.
I’m currently hand quilting a pin wheel quilt, next will be a lone star or carpenters block quilt.

I’ve bounced around so many different designs and styles that I don’t think I could say that I have a favorite. The variety is what makes it fun for me. I have yet to repeat a pattern.
